Why Study the Bible?
Inspired Word of God: Studying Scripture can help bring us closer to God through the study of His teachings.

A Guide to Heaven: God desires us to be with Him in Heaven. Because of sin, navigating through the world can be tricky. God, therefore, has revealed to us in the Bible a guide to how to live in conformity with who we are as human beings; how to live in the way that is best for us and provide a better understanding of God’s plan for us.

Scriptural interpretation: There are tens of thousands of Christian denominations, each potentially teaching different things about any particular passage of the Bible. This indicates the importance of authentically interpreting Scripture. Jesus knew this would be necessary, so He established His Church and gave authority to His Apostles and their successors, the bishops, to authentically interpret Scripture. This is done through the teaching authority of the Church, the Magisterium, enacted through the Pope and the Bishops in communion with him.

Scripture helps us pray: Meditating on the saving truths found within Scripture is an excellent way to pray. The Church views prayer as so important that she has included it throughout the Liturgy of the Hours, the daily prayer of the Church. It is difficult to meditate upon Scripture if one does not know the meaning behind a particular passage. Studying Scripture teaches us this meaning, helping us to pray.
