Father Rafael Tunarosa was born in Duitama-Boyaca-Colombia, the son of Rafael Tunarosa and Maria del Socorro Combita. He is the oldest of two sisters and two brothers. One of his brothers is also priest. He was ordained to the priesthood Nov. 21, 1998, for the Diocese of Duitama-Sogamoso.

He has a master’s degree in ethics and pedagogy and license in religion and ethics from Juan de Castellanos University in Colombia.

He also has a master’s degree in protection of children from Pontifical Xaveriana University in Colombia. He was a tutor at the Pedagogic University of Colombia, pastor at Solidarity Parish in Duitama-Boyaca-Colombia and Military Chaplain of the Air Forces at the Archdiocese of Military service of Colombia.Father Tunarosa came to the Rockford diocese Nov. 6, 2007.
